The challenge

A heavy equipment business based in New Zealand faced strong growth and made the decision to split the business into three distinct business units, focusing on specialist equipment provision, equipment hire and equipment attachments.

The business was operating without a single source of data and was investing significant time in highly manual data collection, storage and reporting. The result was a significant workload when it came to maintaining the accuracy and usefulness of financial, stock and scheduling information.

At the same time, the sales organisation within the business needed a single source of customer data to effectively manage growth.

Our solution

Working directly with the organisation to understand their business processes and requirements, Solnet implemented Odoo, an open source ERP and CRM system for the business.

The result was one platform, which spans all business activities and conforms to their existing business processes. A single database was also implemented, which eliminated previous constraints from working across multiple spreadsheets with data duplication. This improved financial forecasting, scheduling, stock keeping and customer data accuracy.

Integrated from website front-end through to financial and reporting systems, Odoo now serves as a scalable platform for the business to continue to grow, whilst reducing operational risk.

We had tried a lot of solutions that failed, so I was nervous about the whole thing. But Solnet gave us confidence with their track record, they understood what we needed and ensured we had financials coming in from day one.

A platform which grows with the business

Encompassing a range of additional modules, from HR, finance, time- sheets, E-commerce and CRM, Odoo gives businesses the flexibility to consume as little or as much as they choose to. With this in mind, businesses can implement a complete Odoo solution in a staged approach, adding additional modules as the business grows and requires these extra features.

The open source model of Odoo allows users to leverage thousands of developers, business experts and hundreds of robust apps.

With strong technical foundations, Odoo's framework is unique. It provides high-quality usability which scales across your business and, it can be further developed into applications which are unique to the business it supports.

A big part of our decision to go with Odoo is its usability, combined with local support via Solnet as we grow. We know there's a lot more we can get out of it as we grow.
